Getting tested
Here are the different ways to get tested for HIV and STIs in France
In a laboratory, with or without a prescription
STI tests can be carried out in a laboratory upon presentation of a prescription.
Since September 2024, direct access to screening for 4 STIs (hepatitis B, syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia) in addition to HIV has been possible without a prescription and without an appointment at all medical laboratories: private and in hospitals.
Simply go to a laboratory and ask for a test as part of ‘Mon test IST’. You will be asked to fill in a self-assessment questionnaire to figure out which STIs to test.
Testing for these STIs in medical laboratories is available to anyone affiliated with a state health insurance system and recipients of state medical aid (AME).
Those wishing to receive free and anonymous testing should contact the free information, testing and diagnosis centres (Cegidd).
At the free information, testing and diagnosis centre (Cegidd)
Cegidds offer free testing for HIV, hepatitis and other STIs to anyone, even if they wish to remain anonymous, including people without social security coverage.

At a community health association
Community health associations offer free rapid diagnostic tests.
This is the case for the AIDES association:
-> At its outreach locations and sexual health centres (lieux de mobilisation et Spots)
-> At its outreach locations in the Caribbean
-> At its centres providing support and assistance with risk reduction for drug users (Caarud)
At a sexual health centre
Sexual health centres also offer free STI screening.

By receiving a kit at home
People aged 18 to 25 can order and receive a discreet home testing kit in France for 2 STIs: chlamydia and gonorrhea. They can order their testing kit on the website mon-test-ist.ameli.fr.
This service is soon to be extended to men in the same age group with a self-administered urine test.
